Real meditation involves the slowing and eventual stoppage of thoughts. It may seem impossible to do this at first. But a part of you always perceives in a pure form, so we try to get back to that part in meditation. Instead of perceiving sensory input or thoughts, we move in to pure feeling and awareness. What is it that perceives these things? Who are we outside of our thoughts, senses, relationships? We are something. Meditation allows us to be that again. That is what they mean in yoga by saying things like “you are that”. I am what;)? You get the idea.
Meditation is work, but is also immensely rewarding, energizing, and enjoyable. Please see the next lesson Benefits of Meditation.
