The miraculous is the fun and magic on the pathway to enlightenment. Too much of what’s said out there about meditation leaves out this magic. But it’s such an important part! Advanced teachers have performed miracles to help inspire belief or just for fun.
The power of meditation is real. As we advance in our practice, we begin to perceive life differently: less solid, more radiant. Before we are able to perceive life this way on our own, we may be fortunate enough to encounter teachers and/or teachings that directly show us these higher perceptions of life. In addition to what are called the siddha powers, which include miracles like healing and levitation, the primary miracle is the miracle of light: the visible appearance of the auras of enlightenment around the teacher.
Ancient illustrations of the Buddha, Krishna, Jesus, or the Christian saints will show auras, sometimes also referred to as haloes. These are not symbolic representations: they illustrate real perceptions that people experienced in the presence of these great beings.
The true miracle is transformation. By exploring the miraculous in the pathway to enlightenment, we see that transformation is real, beautiful, and powerful.
